Microneedling

The concept of microneedling is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself when it suffers physical damage such as cuts, burns, abrasions or other injuries. Immediately after an injury to the skin, our body begins the healing process, triggering new collagen synthesis.

The INNOPen is a microneedling device that intentionally creates very superficial micro-injuries to the outermost layer of the skin, inducing the healing process including new collagen production resulting in smoother and younger-looking skin. This procedure is performed by a trained professional, under the supervision of a healthcare provider (physician or physician assistant).
The INNOPen microneedling procedure is performed in a safe and precise manner with a single-use sterile needle head. The treatment session usually takes about 30-60 minutes, depending on the area(s) being treated. Topical numbing cream is applied 20 minutes before treatment which allows the procedure to be done with no discomfort.
After the procedure, the skin will be red, with mild swelling and/or bruising and your skin might feel tight and sensitive to the touch. Although these symptoms may take 2-3 days to resolve completely, they will diminish significantly within a few hours after treatment. Microneedling has been shown to reduce the visibility of acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles, diminish hyperpigmentation, and improve skin tone and texture, resulting in smoother, firmer, younger-looking skin.

For at least 3 days post-treatment, do not use any Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare. Avoid intentional and direct sunlight for 24 hours and do not use a tanning bed. Do not go swimming for at least 24 hours post-treatment and avoid strenuous activity that would cause you to sweat. Finally, wait 2 weeks before waxing, threading, hair removal, exfoliating in the treated area.  Dr. Pascoe or another trained staff member will thoroughly cover each area to be aware of during your treatment.

Although the majority of patients do not experience any complications with microneedling, it is important you understand that risks do exist. The procedure is minimally invasive, utilizing a set of microneedles to inflict multiple, tiny, punctures/lacerations on the outermost layer of the skin. Because microneedling penetrates the skin, it inherently carries health risks. You will discuss any and all health concerns with your provider prior to treatment.

Certain health conditions are contraindications to microneedling. During the consultation with your provider, it is your responsibility to fully and accurately disclose all medical history prior to initial treatments, as well as provide any necessary updates at all future treatment sessions.

All skin types are good candidates for microneedling. This is one of the reasons it is such a good treatment for fine lines, pigmentation, acne scarring, and general skin rejuvenation.
